How can I reduce the redness/darkness of my lips?

I'm hispanic & have naturally BIG red lips with fine lines on them. They almost look wrinkly. I like how I look when I use a lipstick that matches my foundation because they appear smaller & I look less like a clown. But even when I wear it, my lips sometimes come off looking cakey, sort of, & I think it's because of the lines. Is there a way to lighten them up so that I can stop spending money on foundation & lipstick for them?
