How much would it cost to get my car fixed?

I got a 1994 Dodge Shadow from my estranged husband and i had to get the brakes fixed, im not yet done paying for that when now whenever i start to go somewhere it takes my car a few minutes before it actually moves. my family says it's the transmission..how much would it cost to get it fixed?
