Will a filtration system take the salt out of the water from a softener?

Will a filtration system do to take the salt/sodium out of the water from useing a salt based water softener or does it have to be an RO system. would one like like this filter system do'? GE� Dual Stage Drinking Water Filter, GNSV70FBL I don't want to run my water bill way up and waste so much water like RO does.
