Reaction from rabies shot, large lump on neck, when lump subsided ,dog was puking and pooping, deathly sick?

My two year old Yorkie who only weighs 13 pounds, received her 3 year rabies vaccine, three days later a large lump appeared.(size of golfball) We called the Vet, they said to keep our eye on it. It should go down in two weeks. The following week the lump went to half it's size, my dog was so sick. Puking and pooping. Her breath was horrid and had a weird smell. WE think the lump should of been drained, it was probably abscess. I thought she was going to die she was so sick. Two days later I made her rice with scrabbled eggs and she finally came around. Two weeks after the shot she's finally better. Do you think this will happen the next time she has to get a rabies vaccination shot?
