What are the dangers of leaving your hemorrhoid untreated?

I have a hemorrhoid and I've had it for the past two years. My problem is that I putPreparation H on it and it gets better, not gone but better then I forget about it so I stop putting the Prep H on it and then it hurts and bleeds again.
